Indian Art as Visual Storytelling

As part of the Reimaging India program I visited the Anjuman-I-Islam girls school in Mumbai. In my work I have taken inspiration from Indian art as a visual language of extraordinary richness and storytelling capacity. I hope her eyes speak of the heartbreaking realties of inequality, but also tell tales of bravery, and hold a sense of pride and duty towards her family and her country. Above all, I wanted to capture innocence and joyful sincerity, the pixie-twinkle in her eyes that a young girl deserves to have anywhere in the world.
